To quit (close) a Mac app in the normal fashion, choose Quit from the app's menu in the menu bar or press Command (⌘)-Q. If the app doesn't quit, follow these steps to force the app to quit.

Press these three keys together: Option, Command and Esc (Escape). Or choose Force Quit from the Apple menu in the top left-hand corner of your screen. (This is similar to pressing Control-Alt-Delete on a PC.)
Then select the app in the Force Quit window and click Force Quit.
To see what’s running on a Mac OS X port, use this lsof command: $ sudo lsof -i:5150. This command shows what’s running on port 5150. Just change that to whatever port you want to see. You can also use this command and then weed through the output: $ sudo lsof -i -P. I found the first command at the link shown. This will bring you to the app opening preferences. You’ll see a list of all the apps set to open upon login, in no particular order. To stop an app from opening, click on it in the list so that it is highlighted in blue. Then, just beneath the list of login items, click the small minus sign.
You can even force the Finder to quit if it stops responding: select Finder in the Force Quit window, then click Relaunch.

To run traceroute on a Mac using the Terminal app
1-Launch the Terminal app. To open the Terminal app, you can:
- Go to Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal. Or alternatively,
- You may open it using Spotlight, open spotlight and search Terminal.
2-Type the following command and press Enter

In this command, hostname is the name of the server connection you are testing, like macreports.com. This could be a domain name or an IP address. For example, if we want to find the traceroute result for macreports, here is the command you need to enter:

As you can see above, you do not need to enter the “https://” or “www.” section of the website’s address.
3-It may take up to a few minutes for your Mac to complete the process. Your Mac will generate a list of connections between your computer and its destination.

To run traceroute on a Mac using the Network Utility app
You may also use the Network Utility app. Here is how:
1-Open the Network Utility app
